Deafened spectators watch the awe from evrey vantage point as the sleek Bugatti T51 of local hero Louis Chiron holds the corner line against the mighty 7 litre Mercedes SSKL of Rudolf Caracciola. 1930 race winner René Dreyfus in the Maserati 8C-2500 loses vital seconds and must wait to rejoin the battle having misjudged his approach to the very fast wide corner at Sainte-Dévôte.
