Description
Nicolas Trudgian's aviation art print 'Crimson Eagle' depicts the possibly most vividly coloured Me109 of WWII, the Bf109G-6 'Red1' of Major Hermann Graf, Gruppenkommandeur of JG 50, swooping through a formation of Flying Fortresses over western Germany in September 1943. In 1942 Graf was the first fighter pilot in the world to achieve 200 air victories. In March 1943, he established the Luftwaffe Fighter Wing 50 (Jagdgeschwader 50), which he led until September 1943. During his career as a Luftwaffe fighter pilot, Hermann Graf received several awards including the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves, Swords and Diamonds.
