Night Departure

‘Night Departure’ is an Lockheed 1049G Super Constellation aviation art print by John Young. In 1958 QANTAS, Australia’s national airline, inaugurated a ‘round the world service using their new Lockheed 1049G Super Constellations. This was airline travel before the days of ten abreast seating and plastic meals, today’s jetliners, those who flew on the “Connies” remember the experience fondly. The Super Connies were the queens of international airline fleets, a position they enjoyed until the introduction of the early jets. John has personal recollections of the Constellation and has created an image that permits the viewer’s mind to complete the picture. The rain wetted ramp might be Hong Kong or Idlewild, Karachi or Le Bourget and one is left with the smell of rain in the evening air. Around the world in style...
