Imperial Airways

The limited edition aviation art print 'Imperial Airways' by Chris Bazeley depicts the Handley Page 42 G-AAUD "Hanno", named after the Carthaginian admiral Hanno the Navigator, who explored the western coast of Africa during the 5th or 6th century BC. In the H.P. 42 the crew was separated from the passengers. "Hanno" first flew on 19 July 1931 and was used for long-haul flights to Africa and India. It was stationed in Cairo. The aircraft had two passenger cabins, one in front of the wings and one behind. The H.P.42 could carry six passengers in the front (later twelve) and twelve in the back. In addition, there was a large cargo compartment. "Hanno" was featured in the fifteen minute 1937 Strand Film Company documentary Air Outpost (You can watch it in the internet on YouTube or Vimeo).
