Description
Alan Fearnley's F1 motorsport art print depicts Nelson Piquet, who started seventh on the grid for the 500th World Championship Grand Prix held on a hot sunny November day in Adelaide and moved up to 2nd place by lap 46 having passed Patrese, Alesi, Prost, Mansell and Berger. With 20 laps to go Ayrton Senna had a 25 second lead over Piquet, but then a gearbox problem caused him to run straight on at a sharp left-hand bend and out of the race. Piquet was then leading with an 11 second lead over Prost and Mansell 8 seconds further back in 3rd place. Mansell then moved into 2nd place and started to close on Piquet, who fought hard to maintain his lead, holding off Mansell's charge at the end of Brabham Straight on the last lap to come home 3 seconds ahead to win his 22nd Grand Prix and 4th Grand Prix with Benetton.

Nelson Piquet completed the 81 laps (306.180km) in a time of 1 hour 49 minutes 44.570 seconds averaging 167.399 kph.
