Description
The aviation art print 'The Greatest Day - The Battle of Britain' by Robert Taylor takes the viewer with stunning clarity into the heart of the action of the Battle of Britain. Douglas Bader, leads his Duxford 'Big Wing' into the fray on the afternoon of 15 September 1940. While diving into the mass of Do-17 bombers flying towards London, he recorded a direct hit with his Hawker Hurricane. Shortly thereafter, the beleaguered German escort fighters are forced to turn towards France due to the fuel becoming scarce, leaving the enemy bombers on their own. On this day the Luftwaffe lost almost 60 aircraft. The RAF lost less than half that number. It was the greatest day of the RAF and the tide of the Battle of Britain had turned in the RAF's favour.
