Michael Rondot Biography

In his 25 year career as a Royal Air Force pilot Michael Rondot flew over 5000 hours on combat jets, including 29 missions in Jaguar fighter bombers during the Gulf War in 1991.

His paintings of modern combat aircraft have a unique authority and accuracy, and are much soughtafter by both aviators and enthusiasts for their realism and powerful atmospheric settings. Of all the Gulf War aviation art prints published, none can match the quality and authenticity of his series based on personal experiences and eye-witnessed events.

Michael Rondot has been painting and marketing his Aviation Art paintings since 1968 and when he retired from the Royal Air Force in 1992, his options were to start a second career as an Airline Pilot or to become a full time artist. He chose the latter because quality of life appealed more to him than a high salary.

Now Michael is one of the most popular and widely collected aviation artists, with paintings and prints in private, royal and corporate collections in many countries. His paintings do have a typical 'Rondot' style, which he says is derived from his long military flying experience. It is a fact that pilots flying over northern Europe have to cope with bad weather much of their flying time, which means rain, low clouds, poor visibility, air turbulance, wet runways during take-off and landings, etc. The majority of his painting still show modern combat aircraft, but aircraft types also include airliners, tankers, World War II aircraft as well as unlikely subjects like armoured fighting vehicles.
